\nA slide backstory from my earlier work on Conceptual art in its “transmedium” emphasis—books reduced to illegible sculpture, acrylic painting on video monitors, images of TV static woven into a giant wall hanging—will set the stage. Based on new finds and findings, this talk will investigate and contextualize recent gallery objects from London, New York, and Copenhagen that continue this “demediating” function in a rear view mirror of media evolution that includes a 40-pound bound volume of “big data” (an on-line Japanese comix series) rather than legible pages, a heroic landscape drawing in charcoal defaced by desk-top icons as if it were a six foot screen capture, the wall-sized appropriation of Facebook (now fittingly “Meta”) selfies with artist comment added, the digital printing in vanishing sand of Covid victim photos, etc.
